Scientific article published in Ixaya. Uses the theoretical approach of mediation theory to study the tensions and relational dynamics surrounding the appropriation of walls and the aesthetic regulation of the city of Guadalajara.
The study maps the symbolic and material dispute among four key actors: neighbors demanding local order; graffiti writers with wall-appropriation tactics; local politicians promoting anti-graffiti laws and wall-buffing campaigns; and reporters constructing public opinion on urban safety. It concludes that the neighborhood aesthetic landscape is the dynamic, negotiated result of this relational web of mediations.
